MEP Design Senior Manager
Job Summary
The MEP Design Senior Manager is responsible for leading and managing the Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) design function across the project portfolio. The role ensures that all MEP systems are designed in accordance with project requirements, company standards, budget constraints, and applicable codes and regulations. The position oversees the coordination of multidisciplinary consultants and internal stakeholders throughout the entire project lifecycle, ensuring the successful delivery of integrated, efficient, and sustainable MEP solutions.
Key Responsibilities
1. MEP Design Leadership & Management
Lead and manage the MEP design function across multiple projects within the portfolio.
Establish design strategies, standards, and technical guidelines to ensure consistency and quality.
Provide technical leadership and direction to internal teams, consultants, and external stakeholders.
Ensure MEP designs support the overall project objectives, timelines, and business requirements.
2. Design Management & Coordination
Oversee the development, review, and approval of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing designs.
Coordinate MEP activities with architectural, structural, landscape, and infrastructure disciplines.
Ensure proper integration of all building systems during the design development process.
Review design submissions, calculations, specifications, and technical reports.
3. Consultant Management
Manage and coordinate external MEP consultants and design firms.
Monitor consultant performance, deliverables, and compliance with project requirements.
Conduct regular design review meetings and provide technical feedback.
Ensure consultants deliver design packages within approved schedules and budgets.
4. Technical Review & Quality Assurance
Ensure all MEP designs comply with local and international codes, standards, and regulations.
Review design documents to ensure constructability, maintainability, and operational efficiency.
Identify technical risks and propose mitigation measures.
Ensure quality assurance and quality control processes are implemented throughout the design phase.
5. Budget & Value Engineering
Support cost optimization initiatives through value engineering exercises.
Review MEP systems and material selections to achieve the most efficient solutions.
Ensure designs align with approved project budgets and commercial objectives.
Provide technical recommendations to improve performance while controlling costs.
6. Project Lifecycle Support
Support projects from concept design through construction and project handover.
Provide technical support during tendering, procurement, construction, and commissioning stages.
Review technical queries, material submittals, and design changes during construction.
Coordinate with site teams to resolve technical issues and design-related challenges.
7. Stakeholder Management
Collaborate with development, construction, procurement, project management, and operations teams.
Present design solutions and technical recommendations to senior management and stakeholders.
Maintain effective communication with consultants, contractors, and external authorities.
Support decision-making by providing technical expertise and strategic guidance.
8. Team Leadership & Development
Lead, mentor, and develop the MEP design team.
Support employee development, technical training, and succession planning initiatives.
Establish performance objectives and monitor team performance.
Promote a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
Minimum of 12–15 years of experience in MEP design and engineering within the real estate, construction, or consulting industry.
Minimum of 5 years of experience in a managerial or leadership position.
Strong experience in large-scale residential, mixed-use, hospitality, or commercial developments.
Professional memberships or certifications are considered an advantage.
Technical Skills
Strong knowledge of MEP design principles and engineering standards.
Thorough understanding of local and international codes and regulations.
Experience with value engineering and cost optimization.
Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, BIM, and other engineering software.
Strong understanding of sustainable design principles and building systems integration.
Excellent technical review and problem-solving capabilities.
