Legal Section Head – Litigation Department
Role Purpose
Manage the company’s litigation portfolio and supervise the litigation team and external counsel, ensuring timely action, consistent legal positions, effective risk management, and protection of the company’s interests across its real estate operations.
Key Responsibilities
-Manage civil, commercial, and administrative disputes involving the company, including customer, contractor, supplier, and property-related disputes.
-Oversee collection-related proceedings, cheque cases, contract termination disputes, recovery of possession, and enforcement of judgments.
-Assess each case’s merits, financial exposure, and available options, and recommend appropriate litigation or settlement strategies to the Head of Legal.
-Review case files, pleadings, legal notices, memoranda, expert submissions, and settlement agreements before submission or execution.
-Represent the company before courts, prosecution offices, expert departments, and other competent authorities, within the scope of the relevant authorizations.
-Monitor hearings, appeal periods, procedural deadlines, and enforcement actions, ensuring that no deadline or required action is missed.
-Coordinate with Collection, Finance, CRM, Sales Operations, and Technical teams to obtain complete supporting documents and establish the facts of each dispute.
-Support arbitration proceedings in coordination with the Head of Legal and appointed counsel.
-Conduct settlement negotiations within approved parameters and submit proposed settlements for approval before making any commitment.
-Maintain an accurate case register and provide regular reports on case status, exposure, recoveries, legal costs, and recommended next steps.
-Review external counsel invoices against approved engagements and monitor litigation budgets.
Identify recurring causes of disputes and recommend improvements to contracts, procedures, and documentation.
-Allocate work, review performance, and develop the litigation team’s technical capabilities.
-Escalate material risks, adverse developments, and matters requiring management approval promptly to the Head of Legal.
Qualifications and Experience
-Bachelor’s degree in Law; postgraduate studies are an advantage.
-Membership of the Egyptian Bar Association, with an appropriate level of registration for the role.
-Typically 5–6 years of relevant litigation experience.
-Strong experience in real estate disputes, debt recovery, contract termination, and judgment enforcement.
-Sound knowledge of Egyptian civil and commercial law, procedural rules, and evidence requirements.
-Experience managing external counsel and supporting arbitration proceedings is preferred.
-Excellent Arabic legal drafting skills and a good command of written and spoken English.
